Ben Bronz Academy

Ben Bronz Academy helps students with learning challenges that include — but are not limited to — dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, executive functioning disorder, ADD/ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome (and other autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and processing & working memory difficulties.

• In addition to a rigorous, research-based academic curriculum; Ben Bronz Academy offers transition services, speech therapy, occupational therapy, school based counseling, a STEM-based Maker Space & Library, and Art & Music classes and lessons.
• Ben Bronz Academy offers small class sizes and a process-driven educational approach that is targeted to the individual learner.
• We offer a mediated learning approach, allowing students to be wholly engaged in their learning and monitoring their own progress.

Ben Bronz Academy Turns 40!

We are currently celebrating our 40th anniversary in 2025 after opening in 1995. The Academy moved locations in 2018, and is currently located next to Northwest Catholic High School on Wampanoag Drive. We have been a proud member of the West Hartford community since we first opened our doors.  We are always looking to offer our students opportunities off campus. Our student leaders collected, organized and delivered donations to the Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford food pantry this Fall. Our students are currently volunteering at The McAuley Home in West Hartford and they have organized a ‘hat and mitten drive’ for Gifts of Love. We hope to continue to serve our community.

Ben Bronz Academy’s Recent Accomplishments:

• Ben Bronz Academy transitioned eight students back to their district or a private school of their choosing and graduated five students in the 2023-24 school year.
• True to our mission to remediate performance gaps and return students to grade level, we had 39 out of 52 students who attended the Academy from September 2023 to June 2024 demonstrate a year or more of growth on the iReady reading and math benchmark testing used in public and independent schools nationwide. Nine students demonstrated more than two years of growth in math and 11 showed more than two years of growth in reading.
• Ben Bronz Academy has also developed partnerships with other nonprofits in our community, including the CT Association of Private Special Education Facilities (CAPSEF), New England Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, Special Education Equity Kids of Connecticut (SEEK), the Newington (CT) Special Education Parent Teacher Organization SEPTO), and the Mandell Jewish Community Center (JCC). Ben Bronz Academy plans on being accredited by CAIS/NEASC in the Fall of 2025.
