A legal crash course for those serving as directors, officers and/or employees of new and start-up tax-exempt organizations (a/k/a nonprofits). There is a litany of legal issues to navigate when forming and operating a tax-exempt organization. Our goal is to help you structure and run your organization successfully and with your eyes wide open. If you’re not familiar with the legal side of operating a tax-exempt organization, or you believe you need a refresher, this seminar is a great start. We will discuss formation, governance, recognition of tax-exempt status, the so-called “private-benefit doctrine,” charitable solicitations, unrelated business tax, advocacy, and lobbying, as well as intellectual property.
