Why. . .
These days it seems like everyone talks about “what” they do…not “why” they do what they do.
I think we can all agree that we do what we do to pay for the many expenses that comes with running our busy lives and to sock a few bucks away for the chapter of life we call retirement.
The older I get (I am now a newly proud grandfather!) the more attention I pay to why I do what I do. As I reflect on this it all comes down to having purpose in life. As many of you know I grew up in the insurance business specializing in nonprofits. 17 years ago I created TANGO to fill a void I saw in helping nonprofits run more efficiently. That lead me to creating a platform that inspires meaningful partnerships with nonprofits and socially conscious businesses….the rest is history (TANGO currently has 1,496 nonprofit members representing 170,000 people who have chosen to work in the sector) and we’re just shy of the milestone of 1500 members!
As we look at expanding TANGO’s footprint throughout the country we are receiving more inquiries from for-profit businesses looking to partner with us. I know within the first 3 minutes of our conversation if they fit. If they talk about the “why” they specialize in working with nonprofits they genuinely “get it”.
Our existing Partners who generously support TANGO are true experts in their given field, whether it be law, accounting, finance, insurance, etc…they are all driven by more than money, they simply share the philosophy of “doing well by doing good”. Their work has purpose and meaning in their life. I am very proud to have created a platform that formally inspires this type of business behavior.
I want to salute our Partner group and thank them for sharing my feeling that “why” we do what we do is more important that “what” we do.
