changes happening on July 1st that will affect all Federal student loan borrowers

Big changes are happening on July 1st that will affect all Federal student loan borrowers.

Below are important resources that TANGO Members can use through partnership with THRIVE to make sure they are in the best position possible and can get grandfathered into benefits that are going away in July.

Key Changes Borrowers Should Know About
Beginning July 1st

  • The SAVE repayment plan is ending, affecting more than 7 million borrowers. Borrowers will generally have a 90-day window to select a new repayment plan once notified by their servicer. Those who do not take action may be automatically placed into a Standard or Tiered Standard repayment plan, which could result in substantially higher monthly payments.
  • The new Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) launches July 1. RAP will become the primary income-driven option for new borrowers, with payments based on income and forgiveness available after up to 30 years.
  • Parent PLUS borrowers face an important deadline. Existing Parent PLUS borrowers who may want access to income-driven repayment options in the future should evaluate consolidation opportunities before July 1. New Parent PLUS loans will also be subject to new borrowing limits.
  • PSLF participants should review and document their qualifying payment counts and employment certifications. With borrowers transitioning off SAVE and into new repayment structures, maintaining accurate records will be increasingly important.
  • Graduate and professional students will see major borrowing changes, including the elimination of Grad PLUS loans and new federal borrowing caps.

Additionally, also offered is a one-time complimentary student loan reviews for anyone who would like personalized guidance before these changes take effect. Spaces are filling up for June, but there are still times available, and a lot of help will be needed once the rule changes go into effect in July and beyond. Schedule Now.

This is a really big moment for Federal borrowers and especially those who work in the non-profit space. As always, we’re here to help – just let us know if you need anything further.
