Capitalism: History’s Gift to Philanthropy

Jack Horak
Director of Nonprofit Education & Consulting

I had the pleasure to present at the virtual annual meeting of the National Association of Nonprofits and Executives on April 21st on a topic near and dear to me and to TANGO: Capitalism as history’s gift to philanthropy.

In the presentation I explained the history and intellectual foundations of both philanthropy and capitalism – pointing out, for example, that philanthropy is the much older of the two – and the necessary connections between the two systems.

Here is a link to the NANOE website where you can find your way to my 35 minute presentation if you are interested in learning more.

Why Financial Clarity Has Become a Leadership Issue for Nonprofits

One of the defining pressures on nonprofits right now is not simply that resources are tight. It is that uncertainty has become harder to separate from day-to-day decision-making.
Recent research shows how widespread that pressure has become. Many nonprofits are facing a difficult mix of rising service demand, tighter margins, funding uncertainty, and growing pressure to make confident decisions in real time.
