Oak Hill is Connecticut’s largest private nonprofit provider of disability services. For over 130 years, Oak Hill has advanced a mission of equity, independence, and full community inclusion for people of all ages and abilities. Founded in 1893 as The Connecticut Institute for the Blind, Oak Hill now serves more than 3,380 children, adults, and families across Connecticut.

Recent Accomplishments and additional information:
- Oak Hill and its affiliates consistently have a measurable impact across Connecticut’s nonprofit community. In the last fiscal year:
- Our residential programs supported 326 individuals in fully engaging with their communities while living in Oak Hill group homes. Residents participated 597 times in our social club activities across 13 unique events, fostering inclusion and social connection.
- Oak Hill School provided individualized and compassionate education for 156 students, 13 of whom graduated in the spring. Forty-seven students participated in vocational programs, gaining skills for greater independence.
- Through our affiliate Gilead Community Services, 2,035 individuals received life-changing mental health and substance use services.
- 120 individuals received augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) services, and 145 people benefited from life-changing assistive technology. Our adaptive video gaming program gave 30 people the opportunity to experience the thrill of accessible play, while 144 adults with disabilities expanded their horizons through outdoor recreation at Camp Harkness.
- Our Smart Home on Wheels (SHOW) introduced cutting-edge technology to 375 people, while 3,819 practitioners advanced their skills through professional development training.
